Bold as brass!
Founded in 2002 by Sylvain Lapointe, Buzz has been performing ever since in Europe, the United States and all across Canada. This Montreal brass quintet is a true musical phenomenon, having in its repertoire exceptional chamber music performances ranging from classical music to present day jazz and blues standards. Not to mention stage productions bursting with energy, astonishing originality, extraordinary musicianship and a brassy humour all its own. Whether in its award-winning chamber music concerts, young-audience shows or recordings, Buzz always hits the perfect note.
The ensemble consists of a merry band of five musicians:
Sylvain Lapointe – artistic director / trumpet
Frédéric Gagnon – principal trumpet
Pascal Lafrenière - horn
Jason De Carufel - trombone
Sylvain Arseneau – bass trombone
Over the years, this Fab Five has gone from one success to another. Buzz has given over 1,000 performances on two continents, in primary and secondary schools as well as in famous venues and halls, attracting more than 225,000 spectators as well as countless numbers who have tuned into their radio and television broadcasts.
Critics and the public alike have enthusiastically acclaimed the ensemble’s recordings, concerts and young-audience shows. The quintet’s victory at the 2014 OPUS Awards in the “Concert of the Year—Multiple Repertoire” category confirms that Buzz occupies a place of choice among the best concert music ensembles in Quebec.
In short, Buzz knows how to amaze, bedazzle and delight every kind of audience thanks to the diversity of its musical influences, the quality of its performances and the freshness of its stage productions!
