Below you will find information for students interested in attending the McGill Student Organ Academy. Please note that Online Registration is not yet open, but students may apply for financial assistance here.
Montreal Organ Festival registration (July 2 to July 6)
Academy Students are invited to also attend the Montreal Organ Festival which runs from July 1 to 6. Students who receive scholarships for the academy will receive complimentary Festival passes. Students registering for both the academy and festival can do so by selecting the "McGill Summer Organ Academy and Festival" registration type on the registration page. A parent or guardian of a student under the age of 18 with a festival pass will also receive complimentary access to the festival events.
Student Academy Concert (July 2)
A selection of students will be chosen by the faculty to perform in the Student Academy Concert at 1 PM on Sunday July 2 (venue TBA). Students participating in the concert will be notified by Saturday July 1 and will receive a coaching session at the organ with one of our faculty members in the afternoon and evening of Saturday July 1. A dress rehearsal will take place on the Sunday morning. Students not performing in the concert will participate in a masterclass with one of our faculty and have a chance to perform for each other.
Students are responsible for making their own arrangements, however we have set aside a block of rooms at the Presbyterian College Residence on the McGill University campus. Rates at the Presbyterian College are $50 for the first night and $35 for the remaining nights. Contact us for more details on reserving a room in the academy room block.
As an alternative, you can also book a room in the McGill Residences which provides short-term dormitory-style accommodations located close to the academy and festival venues. Students under the age of 18 staying in both the Presbyterian College and McGill Residences require a parent or guardian to also stay in the residence. Some double rooms are available in these cases.
Group Lessons and Masterclasses
At the Academy, students will participate in both small group lessons as well as plenary masterclass sessions. For the group lessons, students will be organised into small groups according to their playing level and repertoire choices in order to get the most out of these sessions. The masterclasses which end each day at the academy are for the whole group, allowing all of the students to listen and learn from each other as well as the faculty presenter.
Getting around Montreal
The Academy venues are all located close to McGill University and are accessible by foot. Students are welcome to use Montreal's extensive public transportation network (STM) to explore the city or to get to some of the festival venues which are located outside of the downtown area. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during academy activities.
Students who wish to do some practising outside of the lessons and masterclasses will have the opportunity to sign out practice rooms at McGill on a first-come, first-serve basis in the mornings and evenings before and after the academy activities for the day. See the schedule at a glance above for details on these times.
